Walmart Recalls 850,000 Water Bottles After Reports of 'Permanent Vision Loss'
The screwcap lids may 'forcefully eject,' causing serious injuries.

Check your backpacks, cabinets, kitchen drawers and countertops. Walmart is recalling roughly 850,000 water bottles following reports of injuries, including permanent vision loss.
The recall, dated July 10, 2025, pertains to Ozark Trail 64 oz. Stainless Steel Insulated Water Bottles, which have been sold by Walmart nationwide since 2017.
The risk? “The lid can forcefully eject, posing serious impact and laceration hazards, when a consumer attempts to open the capped bottles after food, carbonated beverages or perishable beverages, such as juice or milk, are stored inside over time,” a recall notice states on the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission website.
Three people have been “struck in the face by a lid forcefully ejected” while attempting to open the bottles, according to the statement. Two of those injured “suffered permanent vision loss after being struck in the eye.”
The water bottles are silver stainless steel with a black screwcap lid, 4.41 inches wide by 11.5 inches tall and feature an Ozark Trail logo on the side. The model number, 83-662, appears on the product packaging but not on the bottle itself. They were priced around $15.
If you have one of the recalled water bottles, you should stop using it right away and bring it to a Walmart location for a full refund.
